Football Factory, The
March 22, 2010
|
IMDB rating: 6.70 Plot: The Football Factory is more than just a study of the English obsession with football violence, its about men looking for armies to join, wars to fight and places to belong. A forgotten culture of Anglo Saxon males fed up with being told they’re not good enough and using thier fists as a drug they describe as being more potent than sex and drugs put together. Shot in documentery style with the energy and vibrancy of handheld, The Football Factory is frightingly real yet full of painful humour as the four characters extreme thoughts and actions unfold before us. |

does anyone else think were devolving?
i think where devolving because when oil runs out we are going to have to shut down factories that run on oil and we will not get electricity and people will start going crazy and create chaos around the world because they will think its the end of the world and there are people that like football so much they would kill for football and when the things used to make football run out the world will be hell on earth.
(i don’t believe in hell though it just describes what it will be like)
physically we are devolving, because we are not using what our bodies evolved to do. We also pollute our environment and our food, which damages our bodies further.
Our bodies were meant to climb, run, throw, duck. Our stationary life style has destroyed the human body, reason being why people are becoming weaker. We are more susceptible to disease and illness.
On an economic and moral standpoint that is difficult to say. We have many sources of Alternate energy, its just that oil produces the most money, that is why we haven’t done away with it yet. Economically we could always have a spin for the better or worse. Morally people have never been sound on a global level, they have always been crazy and murderous. REason being why we have boundaries.
Kyos girl | Oct 15, 2009
No. That’s not devolving. Even then it wouldn’t happen as you describe. No even close.
hateyoumorehaha | Oct 15, 2009
I feel as if we are losing touch with nature. We’re becoming less physical, and more mental. We no longer have a need to exercise primal obligations, such as hunting for food or hiding from predators. So instead we have social fears and we buy food at the grocery store. We no longer live purely for survival, but instead a great majority of our lives involves entertainment. I don’t know where that will take us but that is my observation.

IMDB rating: 5.20 Plot: “Call of the Wild” is a modern-day story incorporating elements of Jack London’s classic short novel. Christopher Lloyd stars as a recently widowed man living in Montana who takes his young granddaughter Ryann (Ariel Gade) in for several weeks while her parents are out of the country. When a wild hybrid wolf/dog shows up injured on the back porch one night, Ryann wants to take him back to Boston as a pet, but her grandfather knows the animal will eventually have to return to the wild. To help his granddaughter understand, he begins to read her Jack London’s “Call of the Wild” each night … but Ryann has ideas of her own, and helps a local boy train the magnificent animal to become a sled dog leader. Timothy Bottoms plays a dark-hearted local bully who tries to claim the dog as his own, and Wes Studi stars as a mysterious mountain man who always seems to appear on the fringe of the action. |

Nobel Son

IMDB rating: 6.70 Plot: Barkley Michaelson is in a deep life rut. He’s struggling to finish his PhD thesis when his father, the learned Eli Michaelson, wins the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. Barkley and his mother, Sarah, a renowned forensic psychiatrist, now have the ill-fortune of living with a man-eating monster whose philandering ways have gotten less and less discrete. As if Barkley’s world is not bad enough, on the eve of his father receiving the Nobel, Barkley is kidnapped and the requested ransom is the $2,000,000 in Nobel prize money. Needless to say, Eli refuses to pay it and so starts a venomous tale of familial dysfunction, lust, betrayal and ultimately revenge. In the words of Michel De Montaigne, the 16th century philosopher: “There is more barbarity in eating a man alive than in eating him dead.” |

Who would you vote for if you had a vote?
I know libs like to defend their ideology and pretend Obama deserved it, even though the unanimous jury admitted it also recognized "deeds to come" and they’re trying to "strengthen him."
No, I’m not angry about it. It’s just sad that he was awarded it, and sadder that many of you attempt to defend it.
"As criticism of the jury’s unanimous decision swelled, the head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee Thorbjoern Jagland denied the award was premature and said it recognized great deeds to come, as well as Obama’s record so far.
"We do of course hope that there will be many concrete changes over the years but… we felt it was right to strengthen him as much as we can in his further struggle for his ideals."
Greg Mortenson, nominated for the prize by some members of Congress. Son of a missionary, a former army Medic and mountaineer, he has made it his mission to build schools for girls in places where opium dealers and tribal warlords kill people for trying. His Central Asia Institute has built more than 130 schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan

Thoughts on my poem. Should I try to publish?
I have a passion for writing, and I have written many poems. However, I never tried to publish. If this poem below is good enough, does anyone know how I may start publishing my work?
I am sortof lost:
Here, alone on stage.
Confused and Beguiled
I am transparent to myself,
But shining crystal to those
Watching with anticipating eyes.
Trying now I move myself to say
What inside of me is begging to cry out
And is commanded by those watching
And necessarily to her, watching.
Or else I risk a relationship
Formed on lies to be
Gone in inability
To lie. I do now
Proclaim:
I am gay.
But that is a lie.
Just, Please, let it be
Now. I must not lose
Her. This chance. This moment.
Give me more time to say what

Story about what i'm going through right now… rate please?
This story seems to be the only thing making me happy right now. There are a few aspects in my life that I like and I hold on to the feelings, but they normally aren’t real. Here’s the beginning… I started from here because this is how everything began. I’m a young and inexperienced writer. Thanks for the opinions.
"Dude, pass it, pass it!" I giggled with uncontrollable laughter. "I am, just just…" She takes a few big hits and passes it to me. "Okay watch this guys." I straighten myself up and then stop to look at the ladder. "Oh… my… lord…" I whisper. I hop up and run with the apple. "Don’t drop it man!" Kyley yells. Demi hops up and pokes her head out of the shed to look where i’ve gone. "hahaha!" Tasha bursts into laughed and falls to the floor. Kyley joins her in harmony. Demi, my better friend of the group, stares at me in awe as I slowly hump the ladder. "What are you dooooing?" Demi blinks. We’ve been best friends since we were 10 and now we’re all 16. These two girls who now adore me used to be my biggest enemies before I conformed. Before I started to become sick of my previous lonely life. My best friend, Demi, conformed before I did and became best friends with the "leader" of this group, Kyley. Kyley has it all. She is sexy, funny, drama-free, has guys falling head over heels for her and even girls, and is definately everyones favorite party girl. After taking a few more hits, we finally got the call. "He’s picking us up?" Tasha becomes serious and directs her attention to Kyley. "Yeah, I don’t got any money but he’s gonna’ have to live with it." She laughs. We all join her. "Is he giving us a ride back, and will there be alcohol?" I ask in the same cool tone as them. "I don’t know man, we might have to sleep over. Just go with it." She shrugs, grabbing the apple out of Demis hand. Just go with it. I took that advice to heart. A little later he eventually did come by and smoked us up on the way to his house. All night they tried "hooking me up" with him but I refused for some reason. I think it was because the bit of morals that I had placed deep down inside my heart still triggered when I knew something was really wrong. Later when we toked again, I thought back to just a few months ago. My innocent days.
I tapped my wooden and overused pencil during class discussion. It was about time to get some more… actually now that I think of it, I do need to do a bit of shopping. The bell rings to go to last hour. Wonderful… a class full of guys who wouldn’t give me a second look. "Oh, Jaden." Mr. Shell calls to me. "Yeah?" I ask very quietly, waiting for the other students to make their escape. "Your grades are looking really good… your dad emailed me and he’ll be pretty pleased with your progress." "Awesome." I smiled. I really was happy, this year was the first year my grades were really good. I wanted to get into college and possibly major in psychology or sociology. When I got into gym as my first day in the sophomore class, I avoided the creepy senior who was rumored to have raped a girl. I was put in his senior class by mistake and he wouldn’t stop touching me. I quickly hurried over to the sophomore teacher and told her I was new. Later on I ended up seeing my old time friend ryan. "Hey! How are you?" He asked me. "Good…" I was a pretty shy person, it took alot for me to open up to people. Later on the boys that I had met wore themselves out with telling me how shy I was, I just couldn’t bring myself to think of anything. That was my problem with everyone. Eventually they became bored with me and ventured off, leaving me by myself to run alone. Alone… heh. I was used to being alone in most of my classes. I think this was actually the day it all triggered with me. I didn’t plan it, it just happened right when my mom picked me up from school and took me back to the house. When she left to go back to her shop, I grabbed a bottle of flavored water, drank half, then poured the other half with whiskey. From that day on, my life changed forever. I wasn’t known as quiet and introverted Jade… starting the next day, I would be known as desirable and spontanuous Jaden.
I’d rate it a 5 or 6. It is good, a bit confusing in the second paragraph.
Also, nobody changes in one day.. I’m not so sure that going home and drinking some whiskey makes you any different the next day at school… I know such things wouldn’t change my life. You say it’s sort of about you.. so why would you think drugs have changed you so much? -.-
I’m a bit annoyed by it actually, but I do like it and it was written okay.

Its okay, but you are all over the place. I have no idea what a "hit" is based on your description. I don’t know, and maybe I don’t want to know, what they are doing to that ladder. I liked your description of Kyley, but I think you could go deeper and give the reader a little more, something that leads more into the story since it seems, to me, like Kyley is the leader of some cult like group. I could be wrong, but for me that is what you have created. I don’t like the part where she is in class. That is way to confusing. You need to focus on one topic and explore it a little. First, she talks to her teacher about her grades. Well I had no idea she was struggling with that class. Then she talks about boys not looking at her in her next class and I don’t know what class that is or why boys don’t notice her. So just get a little deeper into this story and try not to rush things. You have all the time and paper, or computer memory, to make this story come alive.
goo_head_83 | Feb 03, 2010
Interesting read - and fun. right now I’d give it about a 6. It reminds me of friends I had way back when, a moment when life is still pretty carefree. Keep going in that vein, but you might want to fictionalize it a little. For instance, you talk about the characters like they are very dear friends, which is awesome, but the reader isn’t going to know them. So you should find a way to introduce them. Maybe start with the main character getting high with the best friend and slowly the other friends join them?
It’s also a good idea to set the scene a little. Where are they hanging out? Why is there an apple involved? What are they trying to do with the ladder? It’s a little like coming into the middle of the story for the reader and that is confusing. It’s just some stuff to think about when you put it through another draft.
You might want to start with the second part because it just feels a little wonky to go back and forth. It’d be interesting to start with that moment when she puts the whiskey in her water, or show the events which led up to the character doing so.
Good luck with it, sounds really good!
NekoBus | Feb 03, 2010
um…i wouldn’t read it mainly because in two paragraphs you just completely summed up the problems with the youth in america: drugs, alcohol, wanting to fit in, wanting to get good grades.
I’ve never used drugs because it wasn’t important to me and it’s a sign of weakness. I don’t shoot for straight A’s because it only proves you know how to kiss your teachers ass as oppose to learning things that you might actually need and use. I was alone for most of my high school days because everyone was just so superficial and i guess i felt i was better than them, which is a bad thing to say but whatever. I’m turning out just fine.

Well except none of those things are mentioned in the article. What is mentioned is the ultra-conservative board rewriting the history curriculum to reflect a huge balance toward conservative and republican beliefs.
And now we see who really wants to rewrite history and indoctrinate the children.

take out numbers 70 and 80 and you have yourself an awesome list
SarahS | Feb 01, 2010
Good list, but you need to have Marilyn Manson in there.
You guys would rather have Billy Joel, Blink 182 ect then Manson? Seriously you don’t know music.
Kevin C1001 | Feb 01, 2010
Pretty good list, i like the diversity, but I have to say, Michael Jackson doesn’t belong on any rock list, no matter who is playing guitar.
Duffy | Feb 01, 2010
Very classic, with the exception of Blink 182 and Green Day. Good compilation.

And where are The Killers!?!?!? Blink 182, but not The Killers. I guess if this is just your opinion, fine but if you’re talking greatest rock songs ever, Mr Brightside and When You Were Young should be in there
Like A Cigarette In The Mouth | Feb 01, 2010
Well, if you’ve got enough time to make this list, you get a star.
But it’s all the same stuff. Nothing new or fantastic.
"G" (25-21) | Feb 01, 2010
no no no! you die in my country for that! best rocking and the rolling is by Jhad Mehcollah and Ghansdi Foprellai… Motley Crue can suck my hairy crab infested balls of the pubical area!///

TBH it seems pretty standard…theres nothing thats a surprise on there.

Just need to point out a personal pet peeve of mine. Number 88 which you have listed as "Woohoo" - Blur is actually called "Song 2."
As for the list, it’s okay. Some of the bands you mentioned have much better songs to their name than the ones you listed and your top 5 are all horribly overrated and overplayed, but this whole list-making business is all very subjective so it’s fine.
retroelectric | Feb 01, 2010
Waaaay too much classic rock. I would suggest expanding your tastes.

…"Hey Jude" or "Let It Be"?
You’ve got some damn good songs on there, but I don’t think they should all be in that order. And you’re missing quite a few bands. But those are your top 100, not mine.
Epic list, though.
